Total Time

  • 1 pound shrimp
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups popped popcorn, then blended into powder
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 cups vegetable oil to fry
  • Salt and pepper to taste

  1. Make popcorn ahead of time using a microwavable bag of popcorn, then blend it in order to make a popcorn “flour”.
  2. In a bowl mix together the flour, popcorn flour, cayenne, garlic powder and salt and pepper.
  3. For 1 hour, soak the shrimp in buttermilk in order to marinate.
  4. Dip the shrimp from the buttermilk and shake in the flour mixture to coat and put aside.
  5. In a pot with hot oil ready to fry, drop the shrimp in and deep fry until golden brown. About 2-4 minutes.
  6. Using a slotted spoon, drain the shrimp in paper towel and season with salt and pepper.
  7. Serve with your favourite hot sauce and enjoy!
