Outrageous sausage on a bun

  • 6 sausage buns
  • 6 mild or spicy sausages
  • 1 1/2 cups grated smoked gouda
  • 1/2 cup grainy mustard
  • 1/2 cup apple jam
  • 1 cup bacon bits
  • 1 yellow onion, sliced in rings
  • Arugula for topping


  1. Turn the BBQ to medium heat and grill the inside of the hot dog buns. Once grilled, evenly distribute the grated gouda between the sausage buns and place them on the top shelf of the BBQ.
  2. While the cheese melts, grill your onions and sausages. The onions can be grilled and charred as much as you like.
  3. Once the onions and sausages are grilled you are ready to assemble.
  4. Remove the buns with the melted cheese and nestle a grilled sausage in the opening over the cheese. Slather some of the dijon on one side, and some apple jam on the other. Top this with some bacon bits and grilled onions. Finally add a bit of arugula and enjoy!
