Maple bacon blue cheese cheeseball

Put a twist on the classic holiday cheeseball with the sweet and salty flavours of maple, bacon and blue cheese.



  • 1 cup cream cheese
  • 2 cups mild blue cheese, such as Camboloza, St Agur
  • 2 teaspoons butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup caramelized onions
  • 1/2 cup + 1/2 cup crispy bacon bits
  • 2 sprigs thyme, picked


  1. Cream together first three ingredients in medium sized mixing bowl, using large wooden spoon.
  2. Chill in fridge, covered, for four hours.
  3. Gently fold in caramelized onions and half cup bacon bits.
  4. When fully chilled and easy to handle, roll quickly into ball shape, then roll in bacon bits and thyme leaves.
  5. Serve with sourdough, rye crisps and sliced pears.
