Homemade pan release

Skip the cooking spray and use less oil when you make your own homemade pan release



  • ½ cup vegetable shortening, room temperature
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour


  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the shortening, oil, and all-purpose flour until everything is thoroughly incorporated and smooth.  Store in an airtight container at room temperature until ready to use.  To use, simply dip a pastry brush into the mixture and spread a thin layer over the bottom and up the sides of the pan.
