12 Hawaiian Sweet Buns still together in their 23 X 33 centimeter baked form
3/4 cup pizza sauce
12 thin slices cooked ham
1 can (398 milliliters) pineapple chunks, well drained (reserve 2 tablespoons of juice)
2 cups shredded pizza mozzarella
1/4 cup melted salted butter
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon brown sugar, or to taste
1 teaspoon poppy seeds
Preheat the oven to 375°F.
Slice the 12 buns horizontally to remove the tops from the bottoms, leaving all the top halves attached and all the bottom halves attached so that you have two complete layers. Place the bottom layer of buns in a glass or ceramic 23 X 33 centimeter dish. Pour the pizza sauce over this layer of buns and spread it evenly. Place the ham slices on top, slightly overlapping, then sprinkle the pineapple chunks on top. Spread the shredded cheese on top of the pineapple in an even layer, and then place the top layer of buns on top of it all.
If you want to use the topping, whisk together the melted butter, reserved pineapple juice, garlic powder, sugar, and poppy seeds. Brush this mixture over the tops of the buns.
Cover the buns with aluminum foil and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until the buns are heated through and the cheese has melted.
Slice into individual sliders while still in the pan, making sure to cut all the way through the layers.
Serve hot. These do not store well, so are best eaten the same day.
